Port Shepstone Country Club
This gem of the South Coast and just an hour’s drive from Durban, the Port Shepstone Country Club stands tall today as one of South Africa’s favourite golfing courses and estates. The course is set alongside the stunning Umzimkhulu River and the Indian Ocean.
The history of Port Shepstone is fascinating and dates back to 1912 when the first nine holes were laid out, and oozes so much of history with many tales of change, upgrades and flooding when the Umzimkhulu River mouth is closed. These days the club also offers bowls, cricket, squash and even belly dancing.
Today the club is a regular championship host and you can expect all the facilities of a first rate club kept in pristine condition. This club has a “family feel” with a hub of members always finding an excuse to be at the course.
Special promotions that are currently underway at the Port Shepstone Country Club is the new Virtual Golf Membership offer which costs R790 per year. There are no hidden costs here and this is a once-off annual fee.
With a small yet committed team of staff members who run the club in a professional and friendly manner, a new catering team was ushered in from January 2020 with Catering Manager (Valery Berman) at the helm who brings along with her an array of palate-pleasing, scrumptious, yet deceptively simple mouthwatering dishes to the already established and well varied menu.
PORT SHEPSTONE COUNTRY CLUB - GOLF CLUB: Voted Best Golf Course for 5 years in a row in the South Coast Herald’s Readers’ Choice Awards which speaks volumes when one thinks of other courses in the area.
PORT SHEPSTONE COUNTRY CLUB - BOWLING CLUB: Our greens are situated in the heart of our beautiful golf course. We are active members of the Kingfisher Bowling Association and in turn of Bowls South Africa. Our club has a proud current and historical record in producing players, coaches, umpires, selectors and administrators at provincial and national levels.
PORT SHEPSTONE COUNTRY CLUB - CRICKET SECTION: Cricket is a growing sport at Port Shepstone Country Club with an active senior and junior section. The cricketers are in the process of selling advertising boards around the Oval to raise funds to improve the facilities of the ground which has to rate as one of the most beautiful settings for cricket.
Unique to this Oval is that the drainage is extremely good and when other grounds are unplayable Port Shepstone will always dry out in time. The nets have just been upgraded and a turf strip is to be added. This section also boasts Country District players.
PORT SHEPSTONE COUNTRY CLUB - SQUASH SECTION: Port Shepstone Country Club squash section was founded in 1971 and boasts three courts, one being glass backed. We are part of the LSC Squash Association and affiliated to Squash SA.
On the local front our Squash Club fields 4 teams in the LSC winter league each year sponsored by Halfway Toyota. Each team comprises 5 players, from A league to the fifth player normally from the C league. Sheppie also hosts a doubles competition at least once a year. This is a fun day with music and noise and fining and we have been very lucky and privileged to attract players from Durban who have upped our game tremendously.
