The KwaDukuza Local Municipality covers the KZN North Coast region from Ballito in the south, Blythedale, Darnall, Mathonsi, Qwabe (Madundube), Salt Rock, Shaka's Rock, Shaka's Kraal, Stanger, Tinley Manor Beach and Zinkwazi Beach.
There are 29 Municipal Wards and the municipal council consists of fifty-nine members. Thirty councillors are elected while the remaining twenty-nine are chosen from party lists. The majority (30) seats are held by a coalition of eight political parties, with the African National Congress (ANC) being the main opposition party with a total of 29 seats.
