Curro Somerset West Primary School - Sitari Estate
Curro Somerset West Primary School is an independent Curro School bordering Sitari Country Estate, Somerset West that provides high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7 with a focus on developing 21st-century skills. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum (which includes the use of tablets in class) empower learners with skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals.
Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3
With dedicated teachers and small class sizes, our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. Through our enhanced curriculum we then gradually develop learners’ 21st-century skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking, and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school. Furthermore, as a Curro School, Robotics and chess form part of the curriculum and we create opportunities for personal growth so that learners can become personally responsible and accountable for their actions in the intermediate phase. At Curro Somerset West teaching takes place in English or Afrikaans, but isiXhosa is offered as conversational language.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real, to more intellectual and abstract. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provide learners with an inherent dedication to hard work and excellence as well as 21st-century skills through specialised subjects such as Robotics and Technology. In this phase, teaching takes place in English although learners are able to engage with teachers in Afrikaans.
At Curro Somerset West we believe that participation in school sports and cultural activities plays an important role in promoting health, team-awareness, discipline and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Therefore, learners are encouraged to participate in our variety of school sports and cultural activities, including specialised activities such as orchestra and swimming. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. Our learners also take part in eisteddfods and our intermediate phase marimba band and school choir often steal the show with their quirky numbers.
