A City Improvement District (CID) is a non-profit organisation that is funded through a ratepayers’ levy by the property owners within a defined urban area for services additional to those delivered by the municipality. Hatfield CID was established in 2004 and currently encompasses the Hatfield Campus Village, which is an initiative to lead urban renewal and social transformation in collaboration with the University of Pretoria. The Hatfield Campus Village Urban Design Framework determines the look and feel for the suburb, and the involvement of the City of Tshwane has seen this being developed into a Precinct Plan that will become a policy to determine all future developments in Hatfield.

SAFETY AND SECURITY: The safety of all Hatfield residents, employees and visitors is the CID’s main priority. Security teams are deployed to the streets of Hatfield 24/7, and are supported by CCTV cameras on an ongoing basis. Hatfield CID cooperates with local law enforcement, private security agencies and community policing forums.
URBAN MANAGEMENT: Hatfield CID’s service team supports the service delivery function of the City of Tshwane. These staff members are responsible for the daily cleaning and maintenance of the streets and public spaces within the boundaries of the CID. Typical tasks include cleaning litter, trimming trees, removing unwanted plant material, assisting the City in fixing potholes and removing graffiti and illegal advertising.
SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: Through its work, Hatfield CID seeks to build an inclusive and cohesive Hatfield community through the prevention of social and urban decay. The CID collaborates with local schools, religious organisations and other NGOs in relevant community-based projects. This is one of the core objectives of CIDs all over the world, and ensures that Hatfield CID makes a lasting impact.
