Mackouwkuil Game Lodge & Conference Venue is an exclusive bush getaway deep in the Waterberg that will revive your soul and allow you to experience nature, comfort and authentic, first-class African hospitality.

Be prepared to embark on a life-altering journey when you enter the Mackouwkuil game reserve, with its abundant dams, a winding river and various game species. This hidden treasure is nestled deep inside the spectacular Waterberg biosphere in the Limpopo Province, approximately three hours’ north of Johannesburg. The 1 200-hectare property is situated in a malaria-free area, and is completely surrounded by other game reserves.

Like an oasis in the savannah, lush lawns surround the main lodge, stretching right to the water’s edge, while the guestrooms and luxury tents lie hidden among the wild thicket. This stunning setting makes Mackouwkuil Game Lodge & Conference Venue a unique bush getaway, far removed from the demands of urban life. It is the ideal destination for relaxing weekend getaways as well as conferences, brainstorming sessions, teambuilding sessions, company retreats, seminars and even family reunions.

Mackouwkuil has been identified by leading wedding planners and is now being used as an ideal destination for wedding parties of 60 to 80 people. The marquee tent on the water can host 120 guest for the reception for those driving in from town or staying nearby. The lodge has up to 80 beds for family and friends to spend Friday evening to Sunday brunch getting together using the whole lodge exclusively to connect, celebrating and witness the wedding ceremony in either the garden, bush or inside chapel. Mackouwkuil’s luxury settings, lakes, bush, and wildlife makes it the ultimate backdrop for wedding photos of bride, groom and family.

The Waterberg Biosphere is a magical part of South Africa. This area is the answer to every nature lover’s dreams: wide open spaces with a rare wilderness quality, the romance of authentic bushveld, close encounters with some of Africa’s most charismatic and unusual wildlife, and a broad spectrum of biodiversity. Add to this some of the most pristine river systems in southern Africa, rich cultural and archaeological diversity, and a myriad of opportunities to explore on foot, horseback or open topped vehicle, and you have one of the most amazing eco-destinations in the world. To top it all, the Waterberg has a mild climate and is malaria-free.

Mackouwkuil sets aside a number of midweeks and weekends to host church related events, meetings and training events. Please enquire for special rates available during specific times of the year. Part of our mission is to add value to civil society and other non profits organizations, public school teachers, the police and military. Special training and offers are made available to such groups on enquiry.

DIRECTIONS:

- Take the N1 from Johannesburg towards PRETORIA. Follow the N1 towards POLOKWANE (Pietersburg).

- Pass through the first toll gate at the PUMULANE PLAZA. Proceed on the N1 for 35km, passing through the second toll gate at the CAROUSEL PLAZA. After 65km, still on the N1 motorway, keep to the extreme left lane as you approach the toll gate plaza, known as the KRANSKOP PLAZA. It is approximately 5km after the Engen Onestop Fuel Station, the left lane indicates the exit to Marble Hall/Modimolle (Nylstroom).

- After approximately 10km you will reach the town of MODIMOLLE. Continue to drive straight through the town, passing over several stops and traffic lights. After approximately 65km, from the town of Modimolle, you will enter the town of VAALWATER.

- At the stop in Vaalwater turn right onto Sanddrif Road towards Melkrivier and continue for 45.5km, passing Mpatamacha Game Capture on your left and continue to the T-Junction. At the T-Junction turn right onto the dirt road and continue for 10km towards the Main gate.

- Go through the gate on the left-hand side of the thatch. Travel slowly and turn left at the Stone gate after 1.2km. Keep straight and follow the fence for another 4.3km towards the Main Lodge.
