The Motor Vehicle Security Association of South Africa (VESA)

The Motor Vehicle Security Association of South Africa (VESA) is a non-profit organization that regulates the manufacturing and installation standards of vehicle security systems. VESA is a Standards management body, the aim is not to set the standard, but rather to facilitates and co-ordinates interested parties with a technical interest in a specific area, to create the standards and then using its admin structures, to facilitate testing and the policing against these standards as well as providing administrative services to the various groups.

VESA are specialists in the setting, maintenance, testing and policing of standards in the automotive security Industry. The brand of VESA is synonymous with the highest level of vehicle security systems and their standards are referred to by SAIA (South African Insurance Association) and insurance companies as a requirement for the insurance of a vehicle.

In 2008 VESA signed an MOU with SABS for the creation of SANS 534 for microdotting and SANS 535 for vehicle tracking.  Recognising VESA’s success in preventing crime, the organization has been appointed as the official vehicle security standards-generating body by Standards South Africa (StanSA), also known as the SABS.

During its lifespan VESA has established ties with insurance companies, the National Crime Prevention Office of the SAPS, and Business Against Crime to combat vehicle-related crimes. VESA also co-signed the MOU for the sharing of vehicle crime information with Tsohle-Unicode.

VESA has achieved its ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2013 and is currently working towards achieving its South African National Accreditation Services (SANAS) accreditation.
