The valley in which Doolhof Wine Estate lies is blessed with unique and varied terroirs. The microclimates, growing conditions and soil types make it ideal for growing wine grapes. The Estate lies between Bain’s Kloof and the Groenberg Mountain Range. The result is soils that are finer, more balanced and deeper than in the surrounding countryside with clay content evenly distributed. A combination of Malmesbury shale, homogenic Glenrosa and Clovelly soils ensure that the roots are able to descend to four metres or beyond. The farm has been the jewel of the Bovlei valley for three centuries and has had many owners. The current farm dates from 1993 with the decision to grow high quality wine grapes. The first vines were planted in 1995. Since the present owners acquired it in 2003, they have built a winery, tasting room and storage complex. In 2005, the farm was given Estate status.
