GreenSource collects both rainwater and wellwater and its high tech ultrafiltration units are capable of removing contamination in order to provide safe water to the community. Even more, GreenSource is a sustainable playground where children and the community can come together. Water scarcity is both a natural and a human-made phenomenon. Although there is enough freshwater on this planet to serve all its inhabitants, it is unevenly distributed and water is often polluted. Especially the developing countries often have an insufficient water infrastructure. Furthermore, mining, agriculture and industrial activities cause contamination of groundwater. The GreenSource system is an example of what open innovation can lead to. Royal TenCate, Pentair and Drain Products joint their efforts to find a sustainable solution for the drinkwater problem of the North-West province in South Africa. In this way, knowledge of synthetic turf systems, water handling & storage and water filtration was combined in a pragmatic way. The joined forces of these multinationals in East Netherlands are combined with the Saxion University, Landscape Solutions, Mmapula Community Development, Royal Turf SA, local public bodies in South Africa and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign affairs to install the first 20 G reenSource systems.
