Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality includes the KZN South Coast region from Hibberdene in the north to Port Edward in the south. It was established after the August 2016 local elections by the merging of Ezinqoleni and Hibiscus Coast local municipalities. The Ray Nkonyeni municipal council consists of seventy-one councillors of which 36 are elected ward councillors. The remaining 35 Councillors are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received.
