Thuthukisa Community Initiative (TCI), is a registered non-profit organisation which has been operating since 2001, in response to the needs and desperation faced by disadvantaged communities in and around Pretoria. Even though South Africa is the most prosperous country in Southern Africa, it continues to struggle with huge economic and social problems, some of which have been carried over from the apartheid era. Problems such as poverty, unemployment, poor education, violence and disease to mention but a few, still prevail in the new democratic South Africa. It is due to this predicament, facing our nation, that Thuthukisa was founded to bring about hope and make a positive change to communities in and around Pretoria. Since its formation, Thuthukisa Community Initiative’s focus has been the promotion of the well-being of vulnerable groups in communities, such as orphaned and vulnerable children (OVC), the aged and abused women. This is accomplished through partnering with community based organisations through the slogan “Dare2Care”.
